Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chaiya Promma has emphasized the promotion of the “Chanthaburi model” for fruit production under the Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), which is a guideline for any production system at farm level to obtain agricultural products of good quality that meet required standards.

Mr. Chaiya referred to the Chanthaburi model during his trip to Chanthaburi Province in the eastern region to visit orchard growers and inspect the fruit situation. He pointed out that producing fruit of high quality would lead to higher exports, thus enabling farmers to earn more income.

He also explained that the Government aims to generate income in the agriculture sector by implementing the principle of “market-led, innovation-driven, and income growth," and that Chanthaburi is regarded as a model for the farming of agricultural products and also for fruit management.

Located about 245 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, Chanthaburi is rich in many tropical fruit varieties because of its fertile land and favorable climatic conditions. It has become one of Thailand’s major sources of tropical fruits. Seven fruit crops that are grown in abundance in this province include durian, rambutan, mangosteen, zalacca, longkong, egg banana, and longan. 

Since fruit resources in Chanthaburi are of high quality, they are in great demand in overseas market. The province is being developed into a fruit hub of Asia. Tropical fruits from Chanthaburi are now starting to be available in markets. 

The summertime is a good period to visit and explore many amazing places in Chanthaburi and other nearby provinces, which are ready to welcome all visitors with various delicious tropical fruits. Durian, in particular, has made a name for this province.

Chanthaburi is also a popular area for agro-tourism, taking visitors to fruit orchards where they may consume an unlimited amount of fresh fruit and have an impressive experience in touch with nature.
