Thailand is ready to host the sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games from 21 to 30 November 2024, which will take place in Bangkok and the eastern province of Chon Buri.
Government Spokesperson Chai Wacharonke said that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had assigned Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa to confirm Thailand’s readiness to host this multi-sport event, organized by the Olympic Council of Asia.
Thailand has been selected to host the Games, as the country is recognized for its great potential, experience, and efficiency in organizing international events. It is a significant honor for Thailand to be chosen to host this sport event, with the participation of athletes from 45 countries throughout Asia, contesting for 358 gold medals.
The Government Spokesperson stated that the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games are described as the second largest Asian multi-sport event after the Asian Games. This event consists of 36 different kinds of sports, such as volleyball, badminton, and boxing. There will be two demonstration sports, namely Teq Football and Air Sport.
It is expected that over 5,500 athletes, 3,000 related personnel, and 700 distinguished guests will join the sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, together with 150,000-200,000 international tourists.
Originally scheduled for 2021, the sixth edition of the Games had to be rescheduled for 2024 because of the impact of the global impact of COVID-19.
The Government Spokesperson believed that the Games would lead to the circulation of more than one billion baht in Thailand’s economic system and help promote the country’s “soft power.” The Government has been emphasizing the 11 sectors of the soft power industry, namely (1) food, (2) sports, (3) festivals, (4) tourism, (5) music, (6) books, (7) films, (8) gaming, (9) art, (10) design, and (11) fashion.
It also aims to make Thailand a leading destination for sports tourism.
