Thailand is among the top 50 economies in the world, while Lithuania comes first, that are the happiest places for people under 30. according to the World Happiness Report 2024: Countries where the youth might find happiness.
The World Happiness Report is the result of a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Center, the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the World Happiness Report’ s editorial board. It reflects a worldwide demand for more attention to happiness and well-being as criteria for government policy.
The rankings of 143 economies worldwide are calculated based on six factors, namely GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy at birth, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.
In the report, only two economies in Asia are on the list of the 50 top the happiest places for people under 30. Taiwan takes 25th spot and Thailand comes 45th.
Government Spokesperson Chai Wacharonke quoted a report in the Travel + Leisure magazine that Thailand is the second happiest Asian country, as the nation is on the path to becoming one of the most tourist-friendly destinations by introducing visa-free regimes and a "digital nomad" visa program, which attracts young individuals to get a taste of its lifestyle and culture.
The third Asian country is South Korea; however, it ranks 52 on the list. Singapore comes in at 54 and fourth in Asia, followed by Malaysia and Vietnam at 64 and 65, respectively.
The Government Spokesperson stated that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin was pleased with the World Happiness Report 2024, saying that the Government was well aware of the lifestyles and needs of the younger generation. Therefore, it has set policies in line with the present situation, aimed at upgrading the people’s quality of life and bringing them happiness.
For instance, the Government was successful in pushing for the passage of the same-sex marriage law. It strongly believes that the promotion of marriage equality in Thailand is a fitting response to future global trends.
