Cabinet Approves a Fund for Quick-Win Measures to Stimulate Tourism

The Cabinet, during its meeting on 6 August 2024, acknowledged quick-win measures to stimulate Thailand’s tourism and approved a budget of about 433 million baht to implement these measures, following a proposal by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

The fund will be spent by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) on two major projects, namely 1) online travel platforms to boost the tourism market, 280 million baht, and 2) tourism promotion in provincial clusters, 153 million baht.

As for tourism promotion in provincial clusters, the project includes the organizing of events in various parts of the country. The events are the Chiang Mai Art and Music Festival, in Chiang Mai Province; the River of Time, in Kanchanaburi Province; the Chonburi International Music Festival in the Rain, in Chon Buri Province; the Khanom Mindfulness Territory, in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province; and the Isan Music Festival, in Khon Kaen Province.

The quick-win tourism measures are expected to attract more than 350,000 international tourists to visit Thailand from August to September 2024, and about 250,000 persons are likely to participate in these events in the five regions of the country.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin instructed the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and TAT to join hands in seeking more measures to stimulate tourism and economy in tourist cities and accelerate related projects before the high season. This will encourage both Thai and foreign tourists to visit various parts of the country, as well as extending their stay and increasing their spending in Thailand.

The Government is driving the vision “Ignite Tourism Thailand,” with the goal of moving Thailand toward becoming a tourism hub. It has also set a target to generate 3.5 trillion baht in tourism income for Thailand in 2024. To achieve this aim, the Government deems it necessary to introduce measures to stimulate tourism during the low season from July to September.
