The Lampang Provincial Administrative Organization has scheduled the “Lampang Orchid Festival 2024” from 10 to 18 August in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on the occasion of Her Majesty’s birthday anniversary, 12 August.
The festival will take place between 8.00 and 20.00 hr at Nong Krathing Park, which is one of several tourist attractions in Mueang District, Lampang Province. It is also intended to stimulate the local economy and promote tourism, as well as generating more income for orchid growers in this northern province.
President of the Lampang Provincial Administrative Organization Tuangrat Lohsoonthorn said that the Lampang Orchid Festival 2024 would be held under the theme the “Beautiful Queen’s Flowers,” in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who is recognized as “Mother of the Thai Nation.” Her Majesty’s birthday, 12 August, is also observed as National Mother’s Day.
Recognized for her efforts in natural resource and environmental conservation, Her Majesty initiated many conservation projects that have greatly benefited the people to date.
There are several plants that are named after Her Majesty, who is interested in flora conservation. For instance, the crossbred cattleya “Queen Sirikit” orchid is well known and loved among orchid lovers. This variety of orchid yields long white blossoms with yellow lips. It is one of the flowers bearing the royal name “Queen Sirikit” of Thailand, by Her Majesty’s royal consent. This beautiful orchid also received the Award of Merit form the Royal Horticultural Society in England.
Visitors to the Lampang Orchid Festival 2024 will be invited to view and appreciated the largest cattleya “Queen Sirikit” orchid in Thailand. Apart from an exhibition of orchids, the festival also features a market for agricultural products, a bazaar of community products, a food fair, and cultural performances.
Lampang is an old province worthy of a visit. It is the only province in Thailand where horse-drawn carriages are still used as a mean of public transport.
