Chiang Mai Launches Campaign to Promote Health and Wellness Tourism

Chiang Mai Province, in the North, has been conducting a campaign to promote health and wellness tourism to accommodate an aging society and move toward becoming a wellness city.

The province has joined hands with the offices of Tourism and Sports in Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, and Mae Hong Son in collecting tourism information and organizing various activities along the four wellness routes, under the project “Lanna Health and Wellness Tourism” in the upper northern region.

The four routes include “Adventure and Wellness,” from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son; “Friendship Trip Duo,” from Lampang to Lamphun; “Onsen Trip,” from Chiang Mai to Lamphun; and “Food & Crafts,” also from Chiang Mai to Lamphun.

The project also aims to stimulate the local tourism industry and attract more high-quality tourists to visit the cluster of provinces in the Upper North. As Chiang Mai is a large city and a popular destination, it is used as a center to distribute tourism opportunities to various provinces in the cluster.

The second largest city in Thailand after Bangkok, Chiang Mai, literally “New Town,” has long been recognized as the northern capital and center of the ancient Lanna Thai culture. Among its greatest charms are a distinctive culture, picturesque scenery, exotic hill tribes, and creative local products and services.

The Department of Tourism, under the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, has also promoted Chiang Mai as a “film friendly city” among international filmmakers. Chiang Mai has also been named among the best Asian cities for expats.

Meanwhile, Lamphun Province recently introduced its latest tourist attraction, “Wat Doi Ti Skywalk,” which offers panoramic views of mountain landmarks in Lamphun and Chiang Mai. Visitors to this glass-bottomed skywalk will be able to see many attractions, such as the Si K่่hru Ba Pagoda, Wat Phra Phutthabat Tak Pha, Doi Inthanon, and Doi Suthep.
