A Royal Command, countersigned by House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, was issued on 16 August 2024 appointing Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand.

The ceremony to receive the Royal Command took place at 09.29 hr at the Pheu Thai Party headquarters in Bangkok on 18 August, when Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Arphat Sukanan delivered the royal command, stating that Ms. Paetongtarn was appointed prime minister, as she had received a majority vote from Parliament on 16 August.

In her speech after receiving the Royal Command, the new Prime Minister stated that she, together with her family and the Pheu Thai Party, were grateful to His Majesty the King for His Majesty’s gracious kindness. She will perform her duty to the best of her ability, with loyalty and honesty for the maximum benefit of the country and the people, in response to His Majesty’s aspiration and the intention of the Constitution of Thailand.

Ms. Paetongtarn said, as leader of the administrative branch, she would work with the legislative branch, with an "open heart," and open up space to listen to every opinion in order to jointly develop the country and move forward together with stability.

She hopes to harmonize the strengths of all generations and join forces with all sectors of society, whether they are members of the Cabinet, coalition partners, and the private sector, government officials, or the general public.

The new Prime Minister also said that she would develop the potential and skills of all Thais and make Thailand the land of opportunity, where the people would dare to develop their creativity and shape their own future.

She will also continue to push forward various major policies, such as economic stimulus, the fight against drugs, the universal health care coverage program, and Thailand’s “soft power.” An official policy statement will be presented in September 2024.
