Members of the Cabinet, representatives from the Thai government, ambassadors and their spouses, and delegates from embassies and consulates in Thailand will wear Thai silk for a fashion show, as part of the 13th Celebration of Silk, Thai Silk Road to the World.
The annual Thai silk fair will take place at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall on Arun Amarin Road in Bangkok on 31 August 2024, in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother’s birthday, 12 August.
Organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Association of Thai Silk and Culture Promotions, and various public and private organizations, the event also aims to honor Her Majesty for her dedication to the development of Thai silk and the promotion of silk products at an international level.
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit has played a vital role in developing Thai silk and making it known throughout the world. Thanks to Her Majesty, the Thai national dress is now recognized internationally. In fact, the national costumes are particularly suited to hand-woven silk, as well as plain, brocade or patterned, and tie-dyed silk.
Thai silk represents Thailand’s cultural heritage and identity. It is also part of Thailand’s “soft power,” which has been promoted by the Government to drive community economies. Silk weaving has been practiced in every part of the country and passed on from generation to generation.
The 13th Celebration of Silk, Thai Silk Road to the World, will also feature exhibitions in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, and on cultural tourism, a bazaar of “cultural products of Thailand (CPOT),” and cultural performances.
Members of the public are invited to attend this annual Thai silk fair, to be held on 31 August.
