Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on 7 September 2024 chaired a special Cabinet meeting to discuss preparations for the Government’s policy statement, after the Prime Minister and her Cabinet ministers took their oath of allegiance in front of Their Majesties the King and Queen at Ambara Villa, Dusit Palace, on 6 September.
Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister quoted His Majesty the King as saying that His Majesty extended good wishes to the Prime Minister and Cabinet members and urged them to perform their duties in accordance with the oath that they had taken, for the benefit of the country and the people.
Ms. Paetongtarn said that the policy statement would be presented in the National Assembly on 12-13 September. The Government would continue various policies established during the administration of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, especially those concerning economic stimulation, tourism promotion, assistance to vulnerable groups, and agricultural prices.
The Prime Minister also instructed Cabinet members to proceed with the appointment of permanent-secretary-level civil servants to replace those who are about to retire and those who have completed their four year-term in respective positions. Proposals on the appointment may be submitted to the Cabinet for consideration after the policy statement is presented in Parliament.
She described her Cabinet as the Cabinet of creating equal opportunities for all Thais and said that she was ready to work to the best of her ability and to coordinate with all Cabinet members from various sectors and political parties.
The Prime Minister pointed out that she would use diversity from various parties as a strength in solving the country’s problems effectively. She believes that “opportunity” is something that can be created. The Cabinet is ready to work toward creating equal opportunities and restoring confidence in Thailand, starting from now.
