Thailand Welcomes Gumball 3000, Boosting Status as Global Event Hub

BANGKOK, 18 Sept. 2024 – Thailand has reinforced its position as a premier destination for international events by welcoming the Gumball 3000, a world-renowned charity supercar rally, for the first time in the country's history.

The event kicked off yesterday evening with a spectacular public showcase at Central World, Bangkok's bustling shopping district. Over 120 luxury supercars, valued at more than 1 billion baht ($28 million), rolled into the city after entering Thailand through the Ban Khlong Luek border crossing in Sa Kaeo Province.

Maximillion Cooper, founder of the British Gumball 3000, led the procession, which featured rare models, including a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Ferrari 812 GTS, Ferrari 812 Competizione, and Ferrari F8 Spider. The event drew thousands of spectators, eager to witness the parade of supercars and participate in the festivities.

Distinguished guests at the welcome ceremony included Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Public Relations Department; Mr. Singh Limpiratt, Director of the Culture and Tourism Office, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration; Mr. Puripan Bunnag and Mr. Saranroj Suthatchuto, Deputy Directors of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB); and Mr. Chanasak Niyathirakul, Head of Regional Marketing at Central Pattana Public Company Limited.

TCEB anticipates that welcoming Gumball 3000 will generate substantial economic benefits through increased tourism and media exposure, further enhancing Thailand's reputation as a vibrant host for global events.

Today, the supercar convoy continues its journey to Krabi Province, where locals and tourists can view the vehicles at Larn Phra Arthit from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, free of charge.

The highlight of Gumball 3000's Thailand leg will be a charity football match on 19 September at the floating football field on Koh Panyi, Phang Nga Province. The event organizers will also make a donation towards constructing a football field for Thai youth, underlining the rally's commitment to philanthropy.

The Gumball 3000, an annual 3,000-mile international celebrity motor rally, combines exotic cars, entertainment, and charity. This year's edition sees Thailand playing a crucial role in its week-long route across multiple countries, marking a significant milestone in the country's journey to become a global hub for mega-events.

As the event unfolds, it continues to attract significant public interest, showcasing Thailand's capacity to welcome world-class events while promoting its tourism and automotive industries.
