The Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China’s Shanghai Taihuixuan Technology Company to establish “Thai Mall” on Chinese e-commerce platforms.
The signing ceremony took place on 15 November 2024 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in Bangkok. Representing Thailand in signing the MOU was MOF Director Parnitan Meechaiyo, while China was represented by Mr. Chen Zhifa, Chairman of Shanghai Taihuixuan Technology Co., Ltd.
The Thai Mall serves as a central marketplace for direct sales of Thai agricultural products and food to consumers. MOF will provide and select Thai fruit of high quality for distribution to major economic cities in China.
This central marketplace will also expand markets of Thai agricultural products, linking with global supply chains. It also aims to enable the Thai agriculture sector to take part in global e-commerce platforms more widely through the expansion of Thai farm and community products in the international e-commerce system, especially in Chinese markets.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, demand for Thai fruit globally has continued to grow, particularly in Chinese markets. Statistics show that Thailand exported more than 1.25 million tons of durian, mangosteen, and longan, valued at over 130 billion baht, to Chinese markets, from January to October 2024.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce is pushing for more Thai fruit exports and processing of Thai agricultural products in order to increase their value. At the end of the 2024 fruit season, Thailand exported fruit worth 150 billion baht. Major markets include China, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
The ministry pointed out that 2024 was seen as a golden year for Thai fruit growers who were able to sell their products at higher prices.
