Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has summarized the performance of her administration during its first 90 days in office, while announcing major policies to be emphasized next year, under the campaign “2025 Empowering Thais: A Real Possibility.”
Speaking at the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT), operated by the Government Public Relations Department, on 12 December 2024, the Prime Minister delivered briefings on the Government’s 11 policies to high-ranking officials from all ministries, provincial governors, and Cabinet members.
Under these policies, six involve structural issues. In the first policy, the Government will deal effectively with flood and drought problems and provide sufficient water for consumption, agriculture, and industry. Studies will be conducted to allow people to dredge canals and use or sell dug out soil and to ease floods on a sustainable basis through floodway and large-scale structure projects.
The second policy seeks to reduce the PM 2.5 pollution. The Government has set measures to control burning in the country and issued the Clean Air Act. It has also held negotiations with neighboring countries to curb transboundary haze.
The third policy seeks to step up efforts to combat the drug problem. Stricter and more efficient measures will be introduced to bring the problem under control.
In the fourth policy, the Government will dismantle monopolies, especially concerning rice and energy. Farmers will be empowered to export their own rice, and legal reforms will be carried out to lower energy and electricity prices.
The fifth policy involves the formalization of the informal economic sector, which will generate more state revenue and enable the Government to provide greater protection for the public.
The sixth policy involves large investments in the future. The Government has set a target to develop Thailand as a regional AI hub, supported by foreign investments for data centers and other technological and future-oriented infrastructure.
The five other policies, which will be implemented next year, include a project to develop the potential of “SML” – “small, medium, and large - communities," the revival of the “One District, One Scholarship” program, the digital wallet scheme, the tackling of household debt, and the “Homes for Thais” program providing high-quality, affordable condominium units for citizens.
In addition, the Government will also cap the fare of all electric train lines in Bangkok and its perimeter at 20 baht.
