Thailand’s Coconut Milk Exports Are on the Increase

Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukool Pruksanusak stated that exports of Thai coconut milk are on the rise, following the growing global demand, thanks to consumers' trust in the quality.

Coconut milk, extracted from mature coconut meat, is a traditional food ingredient used in many countries, especially in Southeast Asia. Thailand is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of coconut milk and has exported coconut milk to 131 countries around the world.

The growth of the food industry has led to higher global demand for coconut milk. Statistics show that, from January to October 2024, Thailand exported US$341.11 million (12 billion baht) worth of coconut milk, representing an increase of 16.85 percent over the same period of 2023.

Major markets for Thai coconut milk include the United States, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Exports to the United States account for 70.5 percent of Thailand’s total coconut milk exports.

Coconuts have been an important economic crop in Thailand for centuries, and they are available all year. Coconut trees are also grown throughout Thailand, but the yield area is highest in the central region.

Mr. Anukool said that the Government aims to promote coconut planting and manufacturing of coconut products of high quality, so that their standards would be recognized more widely in the global market. Thailand has also carried out the "GAP Monkey Free Plus" program, under which certificates have been issued to ensure that coconut milk products from Thailand are of high quality and ethically sourced.

Thailand’s industrial coconut milk is committed to social and environmental sustainability. These principles are fundamental to the farming practices of Thai farmers.
