The Ministry of Culture continues to drive Thailand’s “soft power” through the promotion and support of Thai films, dramas, series, documentaries, and animations that are aiming to go international. It has encouraged Thai film producers and personnel to participate in major film markets and festivals abroad.
Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol said that the Ministry of Culture would lead a road show to publicize Thai movies and videos at the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) 2025, to be held in Hong Kong from 17 to 20 March 2025.
The road show is an activity organized jointly each year by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and the Ministry of Commerce.
The Ministry of Culture is also joining hands with the Thailand Creative Culture Agency (THACCA) and the Subcommittee on Driving and Development of Films, Dramas, and Series, under the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, in carrying out a project to offer a subsidy of 220 million baht to support the production of Thai films, dramas, series, documentaries, and animations.
This project aims to boost Thailand’s creative industries, as well as enhancing their international standards and global competitiveness. Interested media producers may submit their proposals for the subsidy from 6 January to 7 February 2025.
Out of the 220-million-baht subsidy, 200 million baht will be for production support, 10 million baht for development funding to create intellectual property, and another 10 million baht for short films targeting global markets.
The Thai film and entertainment industry has gained increasing recognition from international film producers. The industry has also proven its readiness to go international, and this will help promote the local film industry, as well as tourism and soft power.
