Significant Improvement of Thailand’s Global Digital Government Ranking

Thailand has significantly improved its global digital government ranking, according to the 2024 E-Government Development Index (EGDI), released by the United Nations.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachan quoted a report from the 2024 EGDI stating that Thailand had climbed to 52nd place out of 193 countries worldwide and now ranked second in the ASEAN region. She said that relevant government agencies had joined forces in developing new forms of digital services, leading to the continued development of the digital system in the public sector.

For instance, a central digital platform has been created to accommodate various state services, including a "super app" that consolidates over 153 government services into a single, user-friendly interface.

Moreover, the development of “Master Data” is another important project that enhances the efficiency of digital services. Thailand has also made significant progress in developing its Human Capital Index and Telecommunication Infrastructure Index.

The Government believes that Thailand will achieve a top 40 global ranking in the EGDI, in accordance with the goal set in its Digital Government Development Plan 2025-2027, which will be officially announced soon.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society Prasert Jantararuangtong said that Thailand will host the fifth ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting from 13 to 17 January 2025 in Bangkok. The meeting will be held under the theme “Secure, Innovative, Inclusive: Shaping ASEAN’s Digital Future.”

It will serve as a forum for digital ministers from the 10 ASEAN nations to exchange views on various issues, such as efforts to combat online scams, build a safe digital environment, and respond effectively to online threats and cybercrime. The meeting will also set directions for digital development in ASEAN.

Also participating in the meeting will be dialogue partners, including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, India, and the International Telecommunication Union.
