Attracting Investment in Five Key Future Industries

The Government aims to attract investment in five “future industries” in an effort to bring about full recovery of the Thai economy and increase Thailand’s GDP growth to over 3 percent in 2025.

The five target industries include data centers, artificial intelligence (AI), electric vehicles, precision agriculture and food technology. The Government will also improve the ease of doing business and amend laws and regulations to facilitate investments from both Thai and foreign investors.

Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub and Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Prommin Lertsuridej have given a briefing on a plan to attract more investment and accelerate the growth of the Thai economy.

Under the plan, the Government will emphasize attracting investment in supply chains. Concerning the data center industry, major global companies, such as Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, and Huawei have already started investing in Thailand.

At the same time, the Government will stimulate investment in the semiconductor industry, human resource development, and research and development. Thailand’s geographical location at the center of Southeast Asia makes the country suitable for becoming a logistics and trade hub, linking with all countries in the region.

As Thailand is striving to play the role of an “active promoter of peace and common prosperity,” the Government believes that the country will become a destination of opportunities that will attract highly skilled workers and target investors.

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) recently approved two new investment projects of more than 60 billion baht in data centers. The first project involves an investment of 32.8 billion baht and will be carried out by Quartz Computing Co., Ltd, in the Google Group. The second project involves an investment of 28 billion baht and will be carried out by Digitalland Services (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Each of them will establish a hyperscale data center in the eastern province of Chon Buri.
