Thai People to Benefit from Thai-Chinese Increased Cooperation in Many Areas

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated that Thai people would benefit from increased cooperation between Thailand and China in many areas, especially the tackling of transnational cybercrime, the promotion of bilateral trade and investment, and the boosting of people-to-people contact.

The Prime Minister summarized the outcomes of her recent visit to China in a special program called "Thai Opportunity with Prime Minister Paetongtarn: Special Episode,” broadcast on the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT2 HD) and all radio networks, under the Government Public Relations Department on 16 February 2025.

The Prime Minister said that Thailand and China would establish two working teams to speed up efforts to crack down on call center scams. She encouraged more Chinese to visit Thailand, saying that the Thai tourist police would take good care of Chinese visitors. 

Both sides would also cooperate in “soft power” promotion, involving such topics as Muay Thai and Thai cuisine. As for Thai agricultural exports to China, the two countries would jointly set standards on quality control and would also facilitate goods transport and open up more channels for Thai agricultural exports to China.

The Prime Minister said that China had shown interest in Thailand’s “Landbridge” project, as it would benefit China and neighboring countries by reducing production costs and the length of shipping time. In this regard, she invited China to invest in this project and said that more information about results of the study on the project would be sent to China.

The Prime Minister also raised the issue of the Thai-Chinese high-speed railway project for discussion with the Chinese side. The project will offer greater opportunities for Thai farmers and small and medium-sized enterprise operators, as well as business people. China attached great importance to this project and urged Thailand to accelerate the construction work, since the project would shorten time for goods transportation between Thailand, Laos. and China.  

In addition, Prime Minister Paetongtarn invited Xaiomi Company of China to invest in electric vehicle manufacturing in Thailand. This would generate more jobs for local people. Thailand also emphasized its efforts to promote the use of green energy and to move toward becoming a regional logistics hub. 

Thailand and China also talked about workplans for the 50th anniversary celebration of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations in 2025.  In addition, China discussed its plan to lend two pandas to Thailand again to strengthen cordial relations.
