Thailand Receives Top Award as the Best LGBTQ Destination

Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukul Prueksanusak stated that Thailand had been named the “Best LGBTQ Destination 2025” at the Spartacus Travel Awards 2025 ceremony, held recently in Germany.

Thailand received this top award presented by Spartacus magazine, a leading German lifestyle and travel publication, based on votes from readers and experts of the magazine, which focuses on the LGBTQ+ community.

The Spartacus Travel Awards cover four categories, namely (1) Best LGBTQ Friendly Airline, (2) Best LGBTQ Event Destination, (3) Best LGBTQ Honeymoon Destination, and (4) Best LGBTQ Destination.

Mr. Anukul said that the award emphasizes Thailand’s reputation as a major global destination for LGBTQ+ travelers and reflects its welcoming environment as one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly nations. There were several factors contributing to the recognition of Thailand as the Best LGBTQ Destination. One of them was the enactment of the Equal Marriage Law, which came into force on 23 January 2025.

The law defines marriage as a partnership between two people, rather than a woman and a man. Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia, and the third in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. The implementation of the law also reflects efforts to promote equality and human rights.

Major LGBTQ+ friendly cities include Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. The Tourism Authority of Thailand regards the enactment of the Equal Marriage Law as a major milestone for the Thai tourism industry, since it demonstrates the country’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity. As global travelers increasingly seek destinations that embrace diversity and inclusivity, Thailand continues to set the standard.

“Pride Month” in June this year will take over Thailand, led by River Pride of Bangkok 2025 and Pride events across Bangkok, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, and Phuket. It is part of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, aimed at reinforcing Thailand’s status as a world-class destination for tourism and sports.
