Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has survived a vote of no-confidence, following a two-day censure debate in the House of Representatives on 24-25 March 2025.
The Opposition, led by the leader of the People’s Party, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, filed the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Paetongtarn on grounds that the Prime Minister lacked leadership, qualifications, knowledge, and the capabilities to solve the problems facing the people.
In the vote of no-confidence, held at about 10.00 hr on 26 March, the Prime Minister received a vote of support from 319 MPs, with 162 votes against and seven abstentions.
The Prime Minister received more than half of the votes from 493 MPs attending the session in the House of Representatives. Therefore, she can continue her duties in national administration, as a majority of MPs voted in favor of her.
After the vote of no-confidence ended, Prime Minister Paetongtarn thanked the people for following news on the debate, as well as coalitions MPs and Cabinet members for giving explanations on various issues. She said that no Cabinet reshuffle was planned for the time being, and that she was ready to listen to all parties and discuss all issues with coalition partners.
The Prime Minister stressed that, as leader of the Government, she would continue to move the nation forward for the good of the country and the people as a whole and would certainly complete her term in office.
The vote of support, she said, would be a driving force encouraging her and members of the Cabinet to continue to work for the people.
