The Thai government has downgraded its disaster management response level from large-scale (Level 3) to medium-scale (Level 2), as the earthquake situation is now under control. The impact on people’s lives and damage have been addressed, while the infrastructure system and transportation routes have returned to normal operating conditions.
Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, in his capacity as head of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command, signed the announcement on 30 March 2025, downgrading the disaster management level.
The announcement states that provincial governors and the Bangkok Governor will continue to control the situation in their respective areas and coordinate emergency relief efforts to help the affected people and ease their hardships.
The National Command Center for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is still supervising, monitoring, coordinating, and supporting provincial operations in order to bring about quick recovery and restore normalcy for the people.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture is conducting a survey to assess damage caused by the recent earthquake to historical and archaeological sites, as well as cultural assets across the country. The survey will lead to the working out of a restoration plan as soon as possible.
Provincial culture offices nationwide were assigned to report damage, so that restoration measures would be carried out with the most efficiency, and a budget would be approved to take care of the country’s historical structures.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan said that the Government attached great importance to protecting national heritage, as it is considered a valuable treasure to be passed on to the next generations. Persons who have information on damage they have witnessed may contact the hotline 1765.
