Bangkok Declares End of Its Disaster Status Following Recent Earthquake

An announcement was issued on 3 April 2025 declaring that Bangkok was no longer designated a disaster area after the recent earthquake, with the exception of the State Audit Office building site on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road in Chatuchak District.

The announcement was signed by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, in his capacity as the Director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. However, the search and rescue operation at the construction site remains underway around the clock to locate those trapped beneath the rubble.

The 30-storey building under construction came crashing down because of the impact of the quake; it would have been the new headquarters of the State Audit Office.

Bangkok was declared a disaster area, following the strong earthquake in central Myanmar at about 13.20 hr on 28 March 2025, affecting the peoples of Myanmar and Thailand. The devastating earthquake, with tremors felt in 63 provinces in Thailand, registered a magnitude of 8.2 at a depth of 10 km.

Among the 18 provinces in Thailand that have been affected, Bangkok suffered the most damage.
