Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachan announced that the number of international tourist arrivals during the celebration of Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year, increased significantly, reflecting Thailand’s success in its tourism campaigns.
Figures show that, from 6 to 12 April 2025, Thailand welcomed 666,180 international tourists, a rise of 10.73 percent from the previous week. It received 95,169 foreign visitors per day on average during this period, when the largest group of tourists came from Malaysia, followed by China, India, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
Thailand organized activities on a grand scale to celebrate the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025 in Bangkok and various major cities, such as Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Hat Yai. The activities attracted a great number of tourists, especially those from Asia. The Government expects that more European tourists will arrive during spring holidays.
Ms. Sasikarn said that, from 1 January to 13 April 2025, Thailand recorded about 10.74 million international tourist arrivals, bringing in 516.6 billion baht in tourism earnings. The five largest groups of foreign visitors came from China, Malaysia, Russia, India, and South Korea.
She said that the Government has implemented several measures to promote tourism, such as encouraging airlines to increase flights to and from Thailand and introducing “Ease of Traveling” to facilitate the travel of tourists. Moreover, visitors will not be required to fill in the TM 6 immigration form.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Immigration Bureau of Thailand will launch the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system on 1 May 2025, replacing the traditional paper arrival card, commonly known as the TM 6 (To Mo 6). From this date, all foreign visitors must submit their arrival information electronically before entering Thailand, whether by air, land, or sea.
The TDAC is designed to streamline border processing, reduce paperwork, and enhance traveler convenience. The online form must be completed before arrival and includes essential travel and personal details. Completion of the TDAC will be mandatory for all foreign passport holders, including tourists, business travelers, and long-term residents. Exceptions apply only to travelers transiting or transferring through Thailand without passing through immigration control and to those entering using a Border Pass.
