Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has presented the national budget draft bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the House of Representatives, saying that the Government aims to stimulate sustainable economic growth, while maintaining fiscal discipline.
In her statement on the 2026 national budget in its first session for debate in the House of Representatives on 28 May 2025, the Prime Minister said that the national budget for the 2026 fiscal year is set at 3.78 trillion baht. and carries a deficit in order to maintain economic stability and support recovery.
Out of the total budget, 70.2 percent (2.652 trillion baht) is set aside for regular expenditures, 3.3 percent (123.541 billion baht) for reimbursement of treasury reserves, 22.9 percent (864.007 billion baht) for investment, and 4 percent (151.200 billion baht) for debt repayment.
The Prime Minister quoted a report by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council stating that the Thai economy is projected to grow by 2.3–3.3 percent in 2025, driven mainly by government investment, domestic consumption, and the revival of the tourism sector.
However, Thailand still faces such challenges as high household and business debt, risks from US trade restrictions, geopolitical conflicts, and volatility in the agricultural sector. Inflation is expected to stand at 0.5-1.5 percent and the current account surplus at 2.5 percent of GDP. As for 2026, Thailand’s economic growth is likely to remain 2.3-3.3 percent.
As of March 2025, Thailand’s outstanding public debt stood at 12.08 trillion baht, representing 64.4 percent of GDP. It remains within the legal fiscal discipline framework, which sets a ceiling of 70 percent of GDP. As for 30 April 2025, the country’s treasury reserve was at 252.12 billion baht.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Government would maintain treasury reserve at an appropriate level and ensure efficient management of national revenue and expenditure for the maximum public benefit, so that the country would be able to move forward with stability.
