Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Wechayachai stated that soldiers from both Thai and Cambodian sides have redeployed their troops to their prior positions as in 2024, thus improving the Thailand-Cambodia border situation.
The troop redeployment came after negotiations at all levels between the two sides. Mr. Phumtham said that both sides intended to reduce conflicts and confrontation and that Thai and Cambodian troops were working together in supervising the border area, while filling in the trenches that they dug in the disputed area of Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
On behalf of the Ministry of Defense of Thailand and the Royal Thai Armed Forces, he thanked the Cambodian government for its cooperation in the negotiations to ease the border situation for peace and benefit of the people of both sides.
Thailand and Cambodia hope that the meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Border Commission (JBC), to be held on 14 June 2025, will resolve the border issue and find a peaceful solution based on mutual respect and good faith.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated that efforts by both Thai and Cambodian sides to ease their border conflicts have now led to the improvement in the border situation.
She urged the people to follow factual information from the Government and boost the morale of personnel performing their duties to resolve the border situation.
