Thailand Placed among Low-Risk Travel Destinations in the World

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan stated that the United States Department of State had issued its latest travel advisory on 9 June 2025, placing Thailand among the safest destinations in the world.

According to the travel advisory, Thailand has been upgraded to “Level I: Exercise Normal Precautions,” the lowest advisory level for safety and security risks. By achieving this status, Thailand joins the ranks of such top global travel destinations as Japan, Australia, Canada, and Singapore.

Ms. Sasikarn said that the upgraded advisory reflects Thailand's favorable image and its readiness to welcome all visitors, and that it would contribute to the country’s tourism, hotel, and restaurant businesses, as well as other related sectors. It would also increase inbound tourism from the United States, which is regarded as a quality and high-spending market.

Ms. Sasikarn said that the upgrade was a result of Thailand’s efforts to ensure the safety of tourists through various measures, such as the establishment of the Foreign Tourists Assistance Fund, tourist assistance centers, and tourist courts.

Although the three southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat remain under “Level 2:  Exercise Increased Caution,” other major tourist destinations, such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya, have met international safety standards.

Ms. Sasikarn also said that Thailand had moved up to 25th place globally in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry in 2024, according to the GlobeWatch Business Analytics-Country and City Rankings, revealed by the International Congress and Convention Association at IMEX Frankfurt 2025.

She said that Thailand hosted 158 international meetings in 2024, an increase from 143 in 2023. Thailand now ranks first in ASEAN and fifth in the Asia-Pacific region on the MICE business list. Bangkok, in particular, climbed to seventh in the global rankings for MICE destinations.
