Royal Command Appointing Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul New Prime Minister of Thailand

A Royal Command, countersigned by Speaker of the House of Representatives Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, was issued on 7 September 2025 appointing Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, the 32nd Prime Minister of Thailand.

The ceremony to receive the Royal Command took place at 11.30 hr at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters in Bangkok on 7 Septermber, when the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives delivered the Royal Command.

The Royal Command stated that Mr. Anutin was appointed prime minister, as he had received a majority vote from the House of Representatives on 5 September to become new prime minister, replacing Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, whose premiership was terminated in accordance with Section 170 of the Constitution.

The next step is that the Prime Minister will select members of the new Cabinet and submit the names of Cabinet members to His Majesty the King for royal appointment. The new Cabinet members will have to be sworn in before His Majesty the King before assuming office.

Later, the Prime Minister is required to deliver the Government’s policy statement in the National Assembly within 15 days of the Cabinet being sworn into office. 

Mr. Anutin on 6 September introduced three outsiders who would serve in his Cabinet, as follows:

- Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, former permanent secretary for foreign affairs, to be appointed foreign minister;

- Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, director-general of the Treasury Department, to be appointed finance minister; and

- Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, former president and CEO of PTT Plc, to be appointed energy minister.
