Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Outlines Four Urgent Issues to Be Tackled by His Administration

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has outlined four urgent issues to be focused upon by his administration after having assumed office, saying that the Government would work tirelessly to pull Thailand from the crisis despite many constraints.

Following the ceremony to receive the Royal Command appointing him Thailand’s 32nd prime minister on 7 September, Mr. Anutin delivered an address, emphasizing four priority areas of action by his coalition government within a period of four months. The four priority areas are as follows:

1. Economic issues – The Government will implement immediate measures to reduce the people’s expenses and cost of living, especially energy and transportation costs. The measures also involve debt-relief programs for farmers and low-income earners and income generation for local people and communities.

2. Security issues – The Government will resolve the Thai-Cambodian border disputes through peaceful means, ensuring that Thailand will not cede territory or compromise national interests. Compensation must be swiftly provided to affected people and families.

3. Natural disasters – The Government will strengthen disaster warning and prevention systems, while rehabilitation and compensation will be provided for the people affected by disasters immediately, reasonably, and fairly.

4. Social issues – The Government will seriously combat drug trafficking, human trafficking, online scams, and illegal gambling. It will also cooperate closely with neighboring and friendly countries to eliminate all forms of social threats.

Prime Minister Anutin reaffirmed that the Government would act strictly in accordance with the law and would not interfere with the judicial process. The Government aims to initiate constitutional amendments, paving the way for the writing of a new Constitution. It will dissolve the House of Representatives, leading to a general election within a four-month timeframe to return decision-making power to the people.
