Thailand Stepping Up Local and International Cooperation in Anti-Drug Efforts

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has stressed the Government’s serious anti-drug operations and its efforts to step up cooperation with both local and international organizations in combating the drug menace.

The Prime Minister on 4 October 2025 gave a press briefing on Thailand’s anti-drug operations in the 2025 fiscal year, under the “war on drugs” campaigns. Joining the press briefing were Minister of Justice Police Lieutenant General Rutthaphon Naowarat and senior officials from the Royal Thai Police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

The Prime Minister declared the fight against narcotic drugs one of the Government’s urgent policies, saying that close cooperation locally and internationally would enhance the efficiency in drug prevention and control.

The Government is well aware of the drug menace, which is considered a serious national threat and adversely affects young people and their families, while leading to many social problems.

Mr. Anutin urged relevant officials to “upgrade” all dimensions of anti-drug operations in order to free the country from the dangers of illicit drugs and bring peace and happiness to society as a whole.

According to the Royal Thai Police, from September to October 2025 alone, nine major drug networks were brought down, and the police arrested 16 suspects and seized 18.25 million methamphetamine pills, 1,488 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and 29 kilograms of ketamine.

The Prime Minister stated that the Government is ready to give full support to the Royal Thai Police, with advanced technology and mechanisms, to enable it to combat narcotic drugs and all forms of crime with greater efficiency.
