Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi has outlined four policy directives for the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) in moving toward becoming an organization with high credibility in news and information.
Minister Supamas on 15 October 2025 visited the PRD headquarters in Bangkok, and she was welcomed by PRD Director-General Sudruetai Lertkasem and other PRD executives and officials. The four policy directives given by the minister are as follows:
1. Communicating with people to provide them with clear understanding about the Government’s policies – PRD should serve as a “bridge between the Government and the people and explain the policies in easy-to-understand language. It should also be ready to adjust the form of communication to be more modern, such as telling the Government’s stories through the perspectives of the people;
2. Adopting technology and innovation in developing state communication – PRD must be a modern media organization keeping pace with the world and the evolving situation by using technology to manage cost optimization and increase efficiency. For instance, artificial intelligence (AI) should be used in production and fact-checking. The PRDEE platform should be developed as a state media center in the digital era. The social listening system should also be used to listen to the voices of the people for policy analysis. Moreover, online projects should be promoted to communicate with the new generation via such digital platforms as Facebook, YouTube, X, and TikTok;
3. Developing personnel to keep them up-to-date with technology and communication in the new era – As personnel are the heart of an organization, they should be provided with upskill and reskill training at all levels. The Institute for Public Relations Development should cooperate with educational institutions and the Thai Media Fund in serving as a center for media knowledge, technology, and communication;
4. Opening spaces for citizen and government participation – PRD must be the “state media that listens with the heart.” It should open spaces for people to express their views and reflect realities from each locality, so that the people’s voices would be meaningful, thus leading to sustainable national policy development.
Minister Supamas also stated that media freedom must come with responsibility, as the media acts as a social influence. In this regard, PRD must use media power to provide better public understanding, combat hatred, and promote positive social behavior, together with upholding the "Nation, Religion, and Monarchy," which are the core foundational institutions of Thailand’s national stability.
