Thailand is ready to host the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) from 9 to 20 December 2025, with the opening ceremony taking place at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on 9 December.
In preparation for the upcoming SEA Games, the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), in cooperation with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), organized a press conference on 1 December to launch the opening of the International Broadcast Center (IBC) and the Main Press Center (MPC) for the 33rd SEA Games at the PRD Media Center on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Bangkok.
Located at the PRD Media Center , IBC is a world-class facility with a basement parking area for 300 vehicles. It features state-of-the-art technology and fully equipped production spaces, including two large studios, a master control room, meeting rooms, a press briefing room, dining areas, and a social media command center. These facilities will facilitate the operations of members of the media from 11 participating countries and provide real-time access to all competition data.
MPC in Bangkok is on the first floor of the PRD Media Center. Another MPC is located in Chon Buri Province on the third floor of the NT Service Center 2. There are also 19 Sub Press Centers (SPCs) at key sports venues, such as the Chulalongkorn University Book Center (Sala Phra Kiao), the Rajamangala National Stadium Press Association Room, Fashion Island’s Island Hall (third floor), the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (Nonthaburi), VS Sports Club & Siam Polo Park (Samut Prakan), Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium Stadium, and the National Sports University in Chon Buri.
PRD Director-General Sudruetai Lertkasem said that the upcoming sports event will be the most extensively broadcast SEA Games in history. The National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) will act as the main host broadcaster, supported by T Sports 7 and many media partners to deliver coverage of more than 30 sports. In addition, sporting federations and associations will be granted rights to broadcast their events on their own platforms for non-commercial purposes.
SAT Governor Gongsak Yodmani stated that Thailand – hosting the SEA Games again after more than 18 years – is fully ready for the event, which features 50 sports, three demonstration sports, and one value-added sport, with 574 gold medals to be awarded.
Because of the severe flooding in southern Thailand, competitions scheduled in Songkhla – one of the original host provinces – must be relocated to Bangkok and its vicinity. The decision, affecting 10 sports, was made to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and spectators. Mr. Kongsak reassured the press that international standards for competition management would continue to be upheld.
