Lieutenant General Theeranan Nantakhwang, Director General of Intelligence, Royal Thai Army, on 2 February 2026 led a delegation of 20 military attachés from 19 countries to the Suranaree Task Force in Surin Province to observe ongoing efforts to address the issue of scam centers along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The delegation was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, representatives from the Central Investigation Bureau, police attachés, officials from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and members of both Thai and international media.
The group was welcomed by Major General Sompop Parawet, Commander of the Suranaree Task Force, and it also attended a comprehensive briefing on operations to combat scam centers and the regional situation of cybercrime.
The briefing was provided by the Directorate of Intelligence of the Royal Thai Army and the Central Investigation Bureau of the Royal Thai Police at the 25th Military Circle, Fort Veerawat Yothin.
Following the briefing, the foreign military attachés visited the Chong Chom permanent border checkpoint to receive further updates from the 2nd Task Force. Meanwhile, representatives from NGOs, UNODC, and international media surveyed scam center facilities in O’Smach, where Thai security forces have been deployed following a ceasefire agreement. The delegation inspected the actual site conditions and reviewed evidence, materials, and documents used in fraudulent schemes.
The fight against transnational crime, particularly online fraud and call center scams, remains a critical mission of the Royal Thai Army in safeguarding border security. The Thai government has declared this issue as part of the national agenda, and the Army continues to play a leading role in supporting prevention and resolution efforts in close coordination with various relevant agencies.
This recent field visit drew strong interest from members of the international delegation, who engaged in active discussions, exchanged information, and shared constructive perspectives. The engagement fostered deeper understanding and expanded cooperation between the Royal Thai Army and allied forces, reinforcing joint efforts to combat the issue of scam centers. This issue poses significant threats to societies both in Thailand and across the global community.
