Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul on 11 February joined the Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangkok, at the invitation of Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Zhang Jianwei.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by his spouse, attended Chinese cultural shows, the Yingge performance, traditional lion dances, and an exhibition featuring Chinese folk culture. The Chinese New Year this year falls on 17 February.
In his remarks at the opening of this event “Embracing the Chinese New Year,” the Prime Minister spoke in Chinese, expressing his appreciation to President Xi Jinping and the people of China for their warm welcome extended to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand during their visit to China in November 2025.
He emphasized close and long-standing relations between Thailand and China, under the "China-Thailand are one family" spirit. The Prime Minister wished Thais of Chinese origin and the Chinese people happiness and good luck on this special occasion.
On 10 February, the Chinese Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Anutin at Government House, as Thailand is launching a promotional campaign for the Amazing Thailand Chinese New Year 2026, marking the 51st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the People’s Republic of China.
The Chinese Ambassador congratulated the Prime Minister on receiving a majority vote in the 8 February 2026 general election, which reflects public confidence on the Prime Minister, and expressed appreciation for his acceptance to take part in the Chinese New Year celebration at the Chinese Embassy on 11 February.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is hosting two main festival events in Bangkok and one flagship event in Hat Yai, while supporting celebrations in major regional destinations. In Bangkok, Amazing Thailand Happy Chinese New Year 2026 will take place across two locations. Festive illuminations will be presented along Yaowarat Road, from Odeon Circle to Chaloem Buri Intersection, from 7 February to 1 March, daily from 18.00 to 23.00 hr. The main festival program will be held at Siam Paragon from 14 to 18 February, daily from 16.00 to 22.00 hr.
In Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, TAT will host Amazing Thailand Chinese New Year 2026 @ Hat Yai from 17 to 20 February along Saneha Nusorn Road, reinforcing Hat Yai’s role as a key tourism hub in southern Thailand.
