Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his spouse Thananon Niramit, presided over the opening ceremony of the Phra Nakhon Khiri – Mueang Phet Festival in Mueang District, Phetchaburi Province, on 21 February 2026 at 19.00 hr.

This festival is a major cultural event of Phetchaburi, which was designated a “Creative City of Gastronomy” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2021. The event in 2026 is the 39th edition and is being held from 20 February to 1 March, under the theme "Heavenly Abode of Phra Nakhon Khiri: The Gem of Siam," at Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang) and King Rama IV Memorial Park.

At the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister attended spectacular cultural performances titled " Traces of the Royal Journey of the Queen Mother in Phetchaburi" and "Lakshmi Devi: Tribute to Her Majesty the Queen Mother."

The Prime Minister said that the 10-day festival is not only a grand annual cultural event but also a reflection of Phetchaburi’s long history, cultural assets, and natural beauty. He cited Phetchaburi as a well-known city for many kinds of Thai desserts, saying that, today, dessert producers have reduced sugar and sweetness levels, in response to health-conscious consumers, while maintaining the true flavors in their desserts.

Apart from being recognized as a Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO, the Prime Minister said that Phetchaburi is also famous for the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021. Located in an area of 464,000 hectares spanning the three provinces of Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Ratchaburi, the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex is rich in biodiversity.

Phetchaburi is noted for cultural and historical attractions, as well. The Prime Minister stated that the organizing of the Phra Nakhon Khiri – Mueang Phet Festival would promote local tourism and generate more income for local residents. In addition, it would serve as a key forum to preserve local wisdom and pass it on through generations, while showing the people’s loyalty to the institution of the monarchy.

This festival features cultural shows, light and sound performances, exhibitions, demonstrations of Phetchaburi’s food and desserts, traditional crafts, and plenty of local food.

Before leaving, the Prime Minister also viewed the exhibition on royally initiated projects, which have proved successful in developing local people’s quality of life.
