People Urged Not to Panic as Thailand Is Not Facing Fuel Crisis

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has urged the public not to panic, saying that Thailand is not facing a fuel crisis and still has sufficient oil supplies to meet domestic demand.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Joint Management and Monitoring Center for the Situation in the Middle East on 15 March 2026, when he instructed relevant agencies to communicate with the public by providing accurate information about the current energy situation in the country in order to reduce confusion among the people.

He reaffirmed that fuel supply is available for sale in petrol stations, and despite tensions in the Middle East, Thailand is still able to secure its oil supply from various global sources. The country’s oil reserves have risen to a 96-day supply, up from 60 days, reflecting its strong energy security.

The Prime Minister said that false information regarding oil shortages often spread via social media had caused public anxiety. He explained that the sufficient oil supply is unlikely to affect people’s daily lives and that Thailand maintains one of the most secure oil reserve levels in ASEAN.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Interior Unsit Sampuntharat issued an urgent letter instructing all provincial governors nationwide to monitor the energy situation and impacts in their respective provinces. They were told to ensure that a supply of fuel is available for sale as usual in each province. If any problems arise regarding the oil situation, they must urgently report the issues to the Ministry of Interior, while a report should also be submitted to the ministry on a daily basis.

Moreover, provincial governors were instructed to communicate with local oil traders, district officers, subdistrict headmen, and village headmen, urging them to disseminate accurate information to the public through various channels, such as village broadcasting towers. This will create confidence among the public about the oil situation, reduce their panic, and prevent hoarding or any actions that might affect the energy distribution system.
