Launching Energy-Saving Campaign to Cope with Global Energy Crisis

The Ministry of Energy has launched a major energy-saving campaign in a drive to cope with the current global energy crisis resulting from the Middle East situation.

Minister of Energy Auttapol Rerkpiboon on 17 March 2026 presided over the launching of the campaign at the Synergy Hall, EnCo Building C, Energy Complex, in Bangkok. He stated that the event was intended to declare the Government’s commitment to active energy conservation, while introducing energy-saving measures to reduce energy use amidst tensions in the Middle East.

Minister Auttapol said that all ministries and factories nationwide have been urged to reduce energy consumption in a concrete manner. A 10 percent target has been set to minimize energy consumption in the public sector.

In this regard, energy clinics have also been opened to offer advice on efficient energy consumption to all sectors of society. The campaign also seeks cooperation from the public in saving energy in various forms, such as the adoption of “work from home” and the efficient use of electricity and fuel oil. These measures are expected to save oil consumption by 660,000 liters a month and reduce imports of liquefied natural gas by 982 tons per month.

The Ministry of Energy has called on all sectors, especially business, industrial, and transport sectors, as well as the general public, to urgently join forces in energy conservation. For instance, they should set air-conditioning temperatures at 26-27 degrees Celsius and maintain lighting systems to cut energy loss.

Minister Auttapol told the public not to panic over the energy situation but to be aware of the efficient use of energy, so that everyone would be able to get through this crisis together.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn stated that, starting on 18 March 2026, the price of diesel, previously capped at 29.94 baht a liter, will increase by 0.50 baht. The Joint Management and Monitoring Center for the Situation in the Middle East had laid down measures to ensure that the diesel price would continue to rise gradually to 33 baht a liter to reduce the burden of subsidies. Also, on 18 March, the price of E10 (gasohol 95) will rise by one baht a liter, while E20 will decrease by 0.79 baht a liter.

Mr. Phiphat emphasized that the Government would promote the use of more biofuels to reduce dependence on oil imports, while managing domestic energy stability amid global price volatility.
