Efficient Use of Energy to Be Promoted in Thailand’s Entire Energy System

The Ministry of Energy aims to enhance the efficiency of energy use in the entire energy system in Thailand through cooperation from government, business, industrial, and people’s sectors, with the introduction of measures to strengthen energy security during the global energy crisis.

Ms. Patcharee Jongrak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy, spoke about efforts to improve national energy efficiency at a press briefing of the Joint Management and Monitoring Center for the Situation in the Middle East on 18 March 2026.

One of the key measures is to encourage the industrial sector and owners of commercial buildings to reduce energy use and implement scheduling for high-energy machinery, while government offices are targeting to reduce energy consumption by 10 percent. As for the people’s sector, tax deduction up to 200,000 baht is offered for rooftop solar installations.

In addition, tax measures have been introduced to promote the use of high-efficiency machinery and equipment, allowing businesses to claim a 1.5 times tax deduction on eligible expenses. These incentives are available from 3 March 2026 to 31 December 2028.

In 2026, the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency plans to expand energy efficiency measures through a co-payment (co-pay) program for upgrading machinery and high-efficiency equipment. Under this scheme, the Government will subsidize 20 percent of costs for designated factories or buildings, and 30 percent for non-designated ones, with a maximum support of three million baht per applicant. The program is expected to reduce energy consumption by about 10,000 tons of oil equivalent, cut carbon dioxide emissions by 30,000 tons, and stimulate over 800 million baht in investment.

For businesses operating vehicle fleets, the department has also introduced energy conservation measures in the transport sector, providing financial support of 20–30 percent for upgrading equipment and transport management systems, with a maximum of two million baht per establishment. This initiative is expected to reduce energy consumption by 1,860 tons of oil equivalent.

The department has also cooperated with financial institutions to provide loan facilities supporting investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements across all sectors, including businesses, industries, and households. Several financial institutions have expressed their commitment to supporting energy-related financing to promote efficient energy use and investment.
