Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul Receives Royal Command Appointing Him Prime Minister for Second Term

A Royal Command, countersigned by Speaker of the House of Representatives Sophon Zaram, was issued on 19 March 2026 appointing Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul the 32nd Prime Minister of Thailand for a second term in office.

The ceremony to receive the Royal Command took place at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters at 13.30 hr on 20 March, when Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Sirote Paetphan read out the royal command, stating that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua had graciously appointed Mr. Anutin the prime minister by virtue of Section 158 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. 

The appointment, effective from 19 March, came after Mr. Anutin had received a vote of more than one-half of the total number of existing members of the House of Representatives.

In his speech after receiving the Royal Command, Prime Minister Anutin stated that he, together with his family, were grateful to His Majesty the King for His Majesty’s gracious kindness. He would perform his duty to the best of his ability with honesty, for the benefit of the country and the people and the progress of Thailand, in response to His Majesty’s aspiration and the intention of the Constitution.

Speaking to the media at 14.30 hr on the same day, Prime Minister Anutin pledged to perform his duty for the well-being of the Thai people and ensure honesty in his administration. He would open up opportunities for the people to participate in working with the Government in tackling the country’s problems, as well as in national development.

He stressed the need for all sectors to seriously scrutinize the work of the public sector in order to ensure transparent administration based on the rule of law.

In addition, the Prime Minister said that, in governmental transition, he would like to see a forward-looking environment in society and a new working culture, with people as the center. What the Government would do in the next four years will be presented when it delivers the policy statement in Parliament.
