Government Expedites Full Assistance for Victims in the Bangkok Train-Bus Collision

The Government is accelerating full assistance for victims killed and injured in the tragic collision between a container freight train and a public bus in Ratchathewi District, Bangkok.

The incident took place on 16 May 2026 at the railway crossing on Asok – Din Daeng Road, near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan Station, causing a fire in the area. Several other vehicles were also damaged.

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul urgently visited the accident site on the evening of 16 May and instructed all relevant agencies to ensure full medical care, compensation, and assistance for those affected and the families of the victims as quickly as possible.

He also visited injured victims at Camillian Hospital in Watthana District and reaffirmed that the State Railway of Thailand and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority would work together to provide remedies for the accident victims and their families. 

An urgent investigation is underway into the cause of the incident and the Government will strengthen measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.

As the minister overseeing the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi has ordered OCPB to establish a special task force to work with other relevant agencies in order to provide remedial assistance as soon as possible. 

The OCPB task force will focus on (1) receiving complaints directly from victims and their families, (2) providing advice on consumer rights related to public transport services, including compensation and insurance claims, (3) coordinating closely with relevant agencies to resolve cases, and (4) following up on compensation progress and providing regular updates to affected individuals.

Minister Supamas said that the Government places the highest priority on public safety and the rights of citizens. On 17 May, she also visited injured victims receiving treatment at Petcharavej Hospital, Ruamjairak Hospital, and King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.
