The Cabinet, during its meeting on 19 May 2026, approved Friday, 16 October 2026, as a special official holiday in Bangkok to ease traffic congestion, facilitate travel, and strengthen security during the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).
Thailand will host the upcoming Annual Meetings of the IMF and the WBG Group from 12 to 18 October. The main sessions will take place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, while another 1,000 related meetings and activities will also be held.
Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek stated that the Cabinet also ordered government agencies in the capital to instruct officials to work from home on Monday, 12 October, Wednesday, 14 October, and Thursday, 15 October.
As for state enterprises, financial institutions, educational institutions, and private sector organizations located around the meeting venue, the Cabinet called for their cooperation to consider implementing appropriate measures in accordance with local conditions and operational requirements.
For agencies with essential missions or pre‑scheduled public services, where cancellation might cause damage or affect services, heads of the agencies are authorized to make suitable arrangements to avoid damage to official operations and prevent disruption to public services.
Ms. Rachada said that these measures would ensure that the 2026 Annual IMF and the WBG Group Meetings proceed smoothly and efficiently. They are also intended to provide the highest level of security for finance ministers and central bank governors of member countries who will participate in the meetings.
Thailand is expected to welcome over 15,000 participants, including finance ministers and central bank governors, executives of global financial institutions, thought leaders, and academics, from 190 countries. They will gather in Bangkok to exchange views on the global economy and address various global challenges.
The Cabinet on 19 May also approved the proposal by the Ministry of Finance to revise the composition of the national committee responsible for preparations for Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 Annual IMF and the WBG Group Meetings.
