Deputy Government Spokesperson Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn has emphasized the Government’s efforts to promote equality in all dimensions and its readiness to move Thailand toward becoming a "Global Pride Destination."
Referring to the success of the Bangkok Pride Festival 2026, the Deputy Government Spokesperson cited the success as a significant step to show Thailand’s potential for hosting World Pride 2030, a series of global LGBTQIA+ events.
She said that Thailand welcomes people from all cultures and respects their rights and freedom, while promoting its image as a tourism destination that supports equality and gender diversity. The Government will continue to build a society where people can live with dignity and have equal opportunities.
Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage, after it had successfully passed the marriage equality law in 2024, defining marriage as a partnership between two people, rather than a woman and a man. The law took effect in January 2025.
This historic move reflects the country’s strong commitment to building an open, inclusive society where equality and human rights are fully respected and upheld. It also reaffirms Thailand’s leadership in advancing LGBTQIA+ rights internationally.
The nationwide Pride Month 2026 celebration in Thailand, themed "Patch the World with Pride,” is underway, spanning late May through the end of June. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is also working with civil society organizations to advance gender equality initiatives and support related activities through the Gender Equality Promotion Fund.
In addition to supporting Pride festivals nationwide, the ministry recently partnered with Bangkok Pride to establish the Pride City Network, a coalition of 58 pilot provinces, to promote gender equality and strengthen Thailand’s candidacy to host World Pride 2030.
