Linking and Exchanging Information to Increase Efficiency in Drug Prevention and Control

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed all relevant agencies, including the Immigration Bureau and Airports of Thailand, to link and exchange information, as well as integrating their operations to increase the efficiency of drug prevention and control.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Narcotics Control Board at Government House on 3 July 2026, when he emphasized that drugs are a major and urgent problem affecting the public and society as a whole. He also urged the Narcotics Control Board to attach great importance to fully addressing the drug issue.

Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek labelled the Golden Triangle a high-capacity drug production area, especially for methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine. This had led to drug trafficking networks along the border smuggling drugs into Thailand.

The drugs then were transported through the logistics system for further distribution across various areas, where they were traded and spread in villages and communities. Consequently, children and youth were at a significantly higher risk of being drawn into the drug cycle. Moreover, those with substance-induced psychiatric symptoms, continue to cause problems for people in many communities.

The meeting acknowledged measures to control and stop narcotic drugs from being transported abroad, as follows:

1. Airports of Thailand, in integrating its work with the Customs Department and the Royal Thai Police, will enhance the efficiency and upgrade the standard of outbound screening of passenger baggage and transported baggage through X-ray scanning and the use of K9 sniffer dogs;

2. Airports of Thailand will conduct strict and thorough baggage inspection for crew members;

3. The Civil Aviation Training Center, Thai Airways, and other airlines will introduce strict rules and regulations for crew members on carrying or accepting items on behalf of others. Violators will face severe disciplinary action, and anyone found guilty will have their professional license revoked;

4. The Customs Department has been approved to draft a Prime Minister’s Office order to establish a Passenger Information Unit in order to enhance information exchange regarding international Passenger Name Records;

5. The Civil Aviation Training Center will enhance the capabilities of personnel responsible for screening passengers’ and crew members’ baggage;

6. Database links will be established between the Customs Department, Airports of Thailand, and other relevant agencies, so that information management can be carried out with greater efficiency.
