Thailand has sought Lithuania's support for enhancing Thailand - European Union (EU) cooperation and for Thailand's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow on 27 July 2026 held bilateral talks with Mr. Kęstutis Budrys, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, during the latter's official visit to Thailand. 

The visit marked the first official visit by a Lithuanian Foreign Minister to Thailand in 22 years and the Minister's first official visit to an ASEAN Member State following Lithuania's accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia at the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting/Post Ministerial Conferences in Manila.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas where both countries have shared interests and complementary strengths, including trade, investment, life sciences, cybersecurity, and education. Both sides also exchanged views on current regional developments.

Following the bilateral talks and luncheon, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Government House.

Thailand and the EU have successfully finalized 15 out of 24 chapters, bringing their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations to nearly two-thirds completion. Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana said that the FTA talks have officially entered their final stages.

As for Thailand's accession to OECD, Thailand has accelerated its campaign to gain full membership in OECD by 2028.
