Officials have been mobilizing efforts to urgently help flood-affected people in the northern province of Nan, which was declared a disaster zone, allowing immediate release of emergency funds and resources.

Heavy downpours have caused flash floods, river overflows and landslides across several districts of Nan on the early morning of 19 August. Pua District was reportedly the hardest hit, with flooding across seven subdistricts and 60 villages, affecting about 8,000 families and more than 16,000 people. 

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, currently on an official visit to Australia, has continued to monitor the flood situation and instructed all relevant government agencies to provide assistance for flood victims.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation issued early morning Cell Broadcast alerts to warn local residents. Officials have been told to work around the clock to deal with the flood situation and provide remedies for the affected people when the flood situation eases.

Residents in the northern, northeastern, and central regions have also been advised to watch out for flash floods, forest runoffs, mudslides, and stagnant water between 18 and 21 August. 

Meanwhile, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi, who oversees the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) and MCOT Public Company, expressed her concern over the flooding in Nan Province. She instructed state media agencies to provide timely, accurate, and verifiable information throughout their news broadcasts, stressing that reliable information is essential to public safety during a flood emergency.

Information sent from the Nan Provincial Public Relations Office at 11.00 p.m. on 19 August stated that the water level in the Nan River is expected to continue rising. Residents in the following communities were urged to evacuate immediately:

* Ban Phuang Phayom Community;
* Ban Phumin–Tha Li Community;
* Si Phan Ton Community;
* Ming Mueang Community;
* Monthian Community (some areas);
* Phai Lueang Community;
* Ban Phaya Phu Community;
* Chang Kham Community;
* Ban Don Si Soem Community;
* Suan Tan Community;
* Hua Wiang Tai Community (areas adjacent to Suan Tan);
* Don Kaeo Community;
* Ban Mueang Len Community;
* Tha Chang Community;
* Ban Phra Net Community;
* Suriyaphong Camp Community;
* Ban Nam Lom Community;
* Ban Fa Mai, Mu 9 (some areas).
