Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt has emphasized the need for Thailand to seriously reform and improve public sector efficiency to cope with global challenges and enhance the country's competitiveness.

In the televised program "Talk with the Anutin Cabinet” on the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) on 5 September 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn outlined a comprehensive strategy for public sector development.

He noted that regular expenditures consume about 73 percent of the current national budget, leaving only 20 percent for capital investments. Streamlining public sector operations to cut recurring costs could raise the investment share to 30 percent, freeing up crucial funds for national development and dealing with future challenges.

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that technology should be applied to replace certain tasks – such as switching from manually delivering files between agencies to sending documents through an electronic or digital document management system.

 He said that the success of these reforms must be measured by tangible improvements for citizens, specifically a 20 to 30 percent reduction in service time achieved through system upgrades and facilitation laws. 

Meanwhile, Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said that the Government’s bureaucratic reform policy was being implemented under the concept of “a smaller state, flexibility, and transparency.”

She said that early retirement measures would be introduced as part of bureaucratic reform, focusing on three major areas, namely (1) streamlining manpower, (2) optimizing work processes to reduce unnecessary procedures, and (3) integrating technology into working methods.

She added that the Government’s bureaucratic reform efforts also aim to streamline the public sector for greater flexibility, providing the public with faster, simpler services and fewer procedures, while ensuring greater transparency and accountability.
