Thai Food Innovation "GrabAgro" Delivered to Help Flood Victims in Hard-to-Reach Areas

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) has delivered 3,000 sets of its innovative survival meal box, “GrabAgro,” to Silpakorn University for urgent distribution to disaster victims affected by recent flooding.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn stated that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation strongly supports applying research and innovation to relieve public suffering in real situations.

The key feature of GrabAgro is its design, specifically tailored for emergencies where access to food, clean water, and electricity is severely limited. Utilizing advanced food sterilization technology, the meals can be stored at room temperature for up to 18 months without refrigeration. The packaging conveniently separates rice from side dishes and is ready to eat immediately – making it ideal for power outages and flooded areas where cooking is impossible.

GrabAgro offers a variety of ready-to-eat authentic Thai dishes, including chicken massaman curry with rice, chicken phanang curry with rice, mackerel sour curry with rice, spicy stir-fried catfish with rice, garlic chicken with rice, green chicken curry with rice, and stir-fried basil chicken with rice. All products are certified by the Food and Drug Administration and hold halal certification.

This innovation builds upon years of expertise from the Faculty of Agro-Industry at Prince of Songkla University (Hat Yai Campus), which has continuously developed disaster-relief food technology since 2011. The product was subsequently commercialized by PSU Agro Food Co., Ltd., a holding company under the university.

“This innovation demonstrates how Thai research can move beyond the laboratory to create tangible benefits for society,” said the Deputy Government Spokesperson. “During a crisis, a single meal box is more than just food – it serves as a vital tool to support and relieve flood victims faster and more efficiently.”

The Government remains committed to scaling up university innovations for widespread public use.
