Thailand’s Ranking in U.S. Department of State’s 2026 TIP Report

The U.S. Department of State on 9 October 2026 released the 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report (2026 TIP Report), which assesses the human trafficking situation in 188 countries and territories worldwide, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 2026 TIP Report placed Thailand in Tier 2 for the fifth consecutive year, acknowledging significant progress in combating human trafficking through key measures:

- Increased funding for anti-trafficking activities;

- Investigation and prosecution of officials allegedly complicit in human trafficking;

- Assistance for potential victims during reflection periods;

- International collaboration on repatriating foreign victims fleeing online scam centers in neighboring countries;

- Establishment of an inter-agency law enforcement center to combat online scams.

Combating human trafficking is a national priority for Thailand. Government agencies across all sectors have worked together to continuously improve their effectiveness in protecting both Thai nationals and foreigners in Thailand, in line with human rights and humanitarian principles.

The Royal Thai Government has also stepped up its efforts and measures against transnational criminal organizations, particularly those involved in trafficking people into forced criminality in scam centers. Thailand remains fully committed to sustaining these efforts, while strengthening international cooperation to combat human trafficking and transnational crime - a shared interest and common goal of Thailand, the United States and the international community.
