Checked Baggage May Be Opened for Security Inspection from 16 October 2026

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploythalay Laksameesaengjan stated that airport operators may open and inspect checked baggage if suspicious items, prohibited articles, or potentially dangerous goods are detected during security screening, according to an announcement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand.

The announcement is effective from 16 October 2026 onward.

Inspections may be conducted without the passenger being present. The process will be video recorded, and a Notice of Baggage Inspection will be placed inside the baggage to inform the passenger that it has been opened and inspected.

To avoid delays and inconvenience, passengers are advised to:

• Ensure that checked baggage contains no prohibited or dangerous items.

• Use TSA-approved locks to facilitate security inspections when necessary.

• Avoid packing valuables, fragile items, important documents, or essential personal belongings in checked baggage.

Proper baggage preparation helps streamline security screening and contributes to a safer travel experience for everyone.
