At the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings Plenary in Bangkok on 16 October 2026, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said:

"I'm standing here in this beautiful country. I cannot think of a better way to finish than by quoting His Majesty the late King Bhumibol, whose words remind us that benefits and positive outcomes do not arise on their own; rather, they must be gradually cultivated, accumulated, and strengthened over time."

She continued:

"This is the essence of our work – the relentless pursuit of betterment in the lives of people. It takes time, it takes perseverance, and it is best done when we all work together."
