Exploring Udon Thani’s Local Wisdom and Way of Life

The Government Spokesperson team has encouraged both Thai and international tourists to experience local wisdom and way of life of Udon Thani Province, in the Northeast.

The team organized a press tour to Udon Thani for 29 media representatives on 1-3 November to introduce them to cultural tourism sites, promote cultural heritage, and follow up on the inspection of the Prime Minister in Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, and Bueng Kan on 2-3 November.

Udon Thani is hosting two major events: the mobile Cabinet meeting on 3 November at the Udon Thani International Convention and Exhibition Center, and the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026, which runs for 134 days from 1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027.

The expo features a wide variety of flora, including 32 international gardens, exhibition gardens from government and private agencies, and rotating ornamental plants under the concept of "Diversity of Life," human relationships, and sustainable living, alongside cultural performances reflecting local identity. It is expected to attract 3.6 million visitors and generate over 20 billion baht in economic value.

The Government Spokesperson team described Udon Thani as a province with high tourism potential and a distinct cultural identity, particularly the wisdom of Mi Khit silk weaving. Furthermore, the province offers a variety of attractions – ranging from natural sites, such as the Red Lotus Lake (Thalay Bua Daeng) and historical-cultural landmarks, particularly the Ban Chiang Archaeological Site, to delicious local cuisine and community lifestyles that reflect cultural identity, together delivering an impressive travel experience.

This province is not only a tourist destination but also a major economic hub, featuring strengths in processing agricultural products and a renowned service sector. More visitors to the province will also create opportunities and generate income for local residents.

As for visitors to the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026, the Ministry of Transport has upgraded public transportation services from airports, railway stations, and key city locations, aiming to deploy 45 shuttle buses to provide 50 trips per day between 07.00 and 20.00 hr. This is to facilitate travel and ensure the safety of citizens and tourists attending this event.
