Prime Minister Summarizes Upper Northeast Mobile Cabinet Meeting Results

In summarizing results of the mobile Cabinet meeting in Udon Thani Province on 3 November, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the Government had decided to develop the upper northeastern region in four dimensions.

These dimensions include elevating the production and trade of agricultural products and food, cross-border trade development, tourism promotion, and full-cycle illicit drug control, aiming to increase farmers’ income, upgrade Thai agricultural products, connect border areas with the regional economic corridor, and ensure sustainable public safety.

The Government aims to enhance the value of processed agricultural products by leveraging the growth of the future food and bio industries, while simultaneously accelerating the development of three major cash crop groups: rice, natural rubber, and energy crops.

High priority is placed on developing infrastructure and transport to boost trade, linking Thailand with various countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion through the Northeastern Economic Corridor, including the country’s special economic zones and other high-potential areas.

The Government is set to promote the unique strengths of each province in the Upper Northeast to develop high-quality tourism destinations and attract year-round visitors, ensuring a continuous stream of income for local entrepreneurs and communities.

It is also driving efforts to tackle the drug problem, utilizing new technology to enhance anti-drug operations and coordinating with neighboring countries to seriously address this issue. The “Udon Model Plus” will be emphasized to help drug users and addicts undergo comprehensive rehabilitation in Udon Thani Province – combining medical treatment and mental healthcare – so that those who have completed rehabilitation can successfully reintegrate into society

In addition, the Prime Minister also promoted the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026, which will run continuously until 14 March 2027. It is regarded as a key opportunity to promote tourism, transfer agricultural knowledge, and stimulate the economy of Udon Thani and neighboring provinces. The public is also invited to visit and experience the beauty of various plants, learn about agricultural technology and knowledge, and apply them to create career and income opportunities.
